MB22 question
« on: May 16, 2010, 07:28:50 AM »
Hi,

I'm in the process of trying to build the MB22 steam engine from the plans on this site. The only thing I can't see my way through machining is how to get the holes in the cylinder top and bottom covers concentric with the cylinders and concentric with the little inserts. The only thing I have thought of so far is to clamp the covers and block together and drill small starter holes for each cylinder through the whole lot before separating them and opening out the cylinders etc... The only trouble with this is I don't think my skills are good enough to line up the holes in the lathe or mill for the subsequent operations.

Pretty please can someone help?

Thanks,
Rupert

Hi Rupert
When I built MB22 back in 1986 I wrote some notes on the construction with a view to publication. So I've sent a copy to Eddy and asked him to add them to the downloads.

Hi Malcom,

Thanks for those! I shall get on with it. This will be the fourth engine that I will have made and hopefully the first that will actually power a model rather than just being a display engine. I'll post some pictures of the construction when I've gotten a bit further.

Rupert
