HMS FAIR MAID

Hi All,
While searching for plans i came across a rather good plan for HMS (PS) Fair Maid. Can anyone help with some detail about her I'd be especially interested to see a pic of her.
I believe she was built / being built for service on the Clyde but was purchased by the Navy before she had a chance to serve???

Hi Guys,
I believe this is the Fair Maid you are interested in, Kim. As far as I know, she was quite similar to the 1899 Waverley (with fore saloon extended to the bow).
A mine sank her in 1916, so she never sailed for the NBR.

Re Fair Maid
In the book "Steamers of the Forth" vol 2 by Ian Brodie,
Stenlake publishing Ltd
ISBN 1840333081

there is a rigging plan of "Duchess of Buccleuch"....I think she was Fair Maids sister ship, one was for the Clyde, the other for the Forth.
she never sailed for NBR either....laid up in Wales after war broken up 1921. she looks identical to Fair Maid

Stuart - Not the Fair Maid i was looking for  but may in the future , a rather pretty paddler by the looks.

Clark - You have read my mind i think - i can probably use the hull lines in conjunction with the incomplete details available for the Waverley to produce a 'Fair Waverley'

I think a model of "Fair Maid" as she would have looked in peacetime, in NBR livery, has just been added to an extensive list of paddlers I would like to find time to build....better keep that quiet!

Clark, I'm not sure if you have seen her plans but she is a fine looking boat on Paper and i imagine she will make a great model - certainly none sailing that i have heard about.
Unfortunately the plan is way to big for me to scan in one piece but if you would like a set I could request an extra copy?

Thanks for the offer to order an extra set of plans, however I will leave it at the moment, and get on with finishing my two builds first!

I do like the unusual, and the Fair Maid is a definate for the future sometime....

I received my drawings today for Waverley & Fair Maid - there are differences but nothing to major to sort to produce both hulls.

Very nice....Fair Maid would have been a stunner in peacetime.
I see the Waverley plan shows her after her refit (early 30's) when she got deckhouses. Did you get lines plans also Kim?

Hi Clark,
No there doesn't appear to be line drawings for the Waverley that was my reason for researching the Fair Maid with a few adjustments they should be useable on the Waverley??
If you know where to find lines for her and also the Glen Sannox I'd very grateful to hear about them. I have searched the Langmuir collection at the Mitchell but the plans all seem to be of refits and preparation for war.
Glen Sannox I can only find profile, General Arrangement etc.

Hi Kim,
You have probably tried Universtiy of Glasgow archives, the Ballast Trust may be worth a try also.
I have read that Fair Maid was based on Waverley (built up condition) so the lines should work fine.
Re Glen Sannox....the model of her at the last paddler day looked spot on...maybe the builder had lines?
If I was really stuck, I'd try to get lines for PS Juno 1898, and stretch the hull by 15'......a lot of work though!! the shape of the sterns looks different.

I'm pretty sure Gavin Johnston has the hull lines for the Sannox. I think he got them from Glasgow University Archives who hold the J&G Thompson plans (teaching granny to suck eggs here).
