Well PDs!

Thanks to those that wished me luck taxing my car.

I stumbled out of bed at 6 o'clock this morning and, with my beautiful assistant drove grumpily to the tax office in 'Hora' (the main town). After queing for about an hour (we were first at the door BEFORE the office openened but I forgot this is not the UK and was trampled in the rush and ended at the back of the queue). When I reached the counter I explained that I did not have a reminder but I thought I was correct in assuming I could tax the car today or - last day tomorrow. "Yes" she said with a smile.
"Here are my documents, are they correct?"
"Absolutely perfect thank you"
"And the cost is 310 Euro?"
"Yes - you pay at the cashier's window over there when I have given you the form after I have processed your paperwork"
Great - I'll do that now then" (BIG smile)
"We have no tax discs"
"Pardon"
"We have no tax Discs - we have run out"
"Ah! -(small sob escapes lips)
"You can come back in 15 days with no penalty - there is a new State Directive for Naxos"

I left, without my car tax and walked back to my cute little blue Suzuki short wheelbase Grand Vitara - to discover someone had put a groove all the way down the side with their bumper.  Probably the woman in the tax office!

Ah well welcome to Greece - I LOVE IT HERE! REALLY!

Hmm... I think i prefer the sound of Greece right now Stuart.
I had to stop outdoor work this eve as my fingers had turned a rather unhealthy shade of purple and on opening the shed door i was greeted by a blizzard.
Greece or Scotland? .....right now i think Greece has the edge

Well Stuart,don't feel alone this problem is world wide,in Sth Australia the vehicle and marine registrations are all at the same counter/same office hence the confusion.,yesterdays
round trip of 380 klms in 41 deg c heat proved to me that I don't have a sense of humour
Firstly the lady at the counter stated there was no need to register a paddle wheeler as they were only paddled around a lake and basically a childs amusement,with the right forms filled out,she still could not get her head around the fact that the vessel was 66 feet long.,that definately required a lot of peddles for all those little feet,and did I have in place the correct number of life jackets.A quick  explaination which was at this stage .at the 15 minute mark also added to the confusion as she only understood metric and imperial terms she was not familiar with.Shades of Enoch Powell were entering my mind and I had always considered myself not a racist,as I hated everybody equally,sadly she could not find a catergory to arrive at the cost to charge me.The line up behind me would have been approximately 25 very irate sweaty people,I thought ;poor bastards; they must be wanting my guts for garters by now.The dear young lass then came up with a brillant idea and suggested that she call her supervisor,problem solved in 2 minutes,but .no rego disc, as the government printers had been on strike a few weeks previous and had not caught up.
Whole exercise took 1.15 minutes,but the good part is now as I sit on the deck with 6 good friends,some good wine and watching Australia belt the crap out of the Paki's in the cricket.Wishing everybody a happy new year.

I've never actually had a problem taxing a vehicle, but I can still sympathise Stuart....

We have a severely mentally and physically handicapped daughter (now 25yrs old), and because of that we have a disabled parking badge so we can park in restricted zones.

The same office has handled the renewal of this badge ever since she was born. The badge has to be renewed every three years. Last year I applied for a new one, but couldn't find one piece of paperwork that said she was on the hgher rate of allowance for disability, so I enclosed the letter that comes with every payment she gets to show the amount she is paid.... In my mind that showed that she was on the higher amount, so was obviously elligible...

But that wasn't satisfactory to the pen pushers - They insisted that I sent the correct form! So I phoned the department that handles her claim at Blackpool, three weeks later I got the required paperwork, and sent it off - New badge issued....

Now my point is - 1st, why couldn't they use a few brain cells and accept the original application? and 2nd, as the same office has issued every single badge, why couldn't they simply check their records to see that my daugher has been awarded the higher rate of disability allowance for life!

Sadly with a disabled person it's a constant struggle (no, battle!) to get these idiots to accept that the whole point of the disabled badge is to "make life easier", NOT HARDER!!

My apology to any of our members who are civil servants, but I always think there is some larceny in those who feed at the public trough, I think they know in there hearts that they are being overpaid for the work they do and are ashamed to admit it. There fore to maintain there self esteem they have to make things difficult with those they are hired to serve.

sorry PD's.......& a little off track  ....being self employed  naturally I have a good accountant  ....although one rule  of advice was  ....never communicate with the Tax office

Well as I complete my company quarterly BAS statements & remit directly to the Taxation Dept....being so  on a few occasions I have called that same group of people & found them to be committed & very helpful  ...mind you I was acknowledging that I needed to pay extra $ to them not the other way around...good public servants 

The group of people I have great  with is Australian TELSTRA ...a bunch of mindless morons    .....Derek
