Resin Figure Conversion
« on: December 31, 2009, 04:03:17 AM »
Hi all, Just a few photo's of my little Christmas project. I had to do some major surgery on the skipper figure for my 1/12 scale model of Monarch. The problem arose because I had to put a raised floor in her wheelhouse. So of to Monkenstein's lab for some surgery (cue evil laugh and thunder).
The first one is as he was supplied. A nice paint job but too tall and that right arm will have to come off.
The next one shows the poor victim in bits. The legs were cut with a junior hack saw and the arm was cut out with a small dentists cutter in my proxon mini drill. (shame about the finger though, must ask Igor where it went)
The third one shows him back together and filler applied. All the joints were cyanoed in place and reinforced with wire pegs for strength. The ones in the legs go right through his feet (Ooh nasty) and will be used to fix him in place.
And finally all done and ready to be fitted when the wheel house is finished.
All in all about six hours work but spread over five evenings. The whole thing cost me about £8. Not bad value.

Very nicely done Chris, mind you, I hope you aren't a surgeon in real life?

I had to do some major surgery on the skipper - that right arm will have to come off.

Right arm? the photo clearly shows his left arm has been removed!! :( I'll bet he was a bit grumpy when the anaesthetic wore off!

Hi Eddie. Well I do work for the NHS (preferred instruments hammer and 1" chisel). Left arm right arm what the heck, it was Igor's idea any way. He didn't complain too loudly as he has been promoted from passenger to skipper.
Have a happy and prosperous new year.
Cheers Chris.

I remember the wife watching one of her TV show in which a Doctor was to have an arm removed, before he went to the operating room he had someone write on his good arm "The other arm stupid". When my wife was in college taking a Medical Course they were given the opportunity to watch some  live operations, Two she watched were a knee and a hip replacement, Her comment to me was I would have loved all the nice power tools they were using.
