The railway companies always used the spelling Ardnadam, but my great-great-grandmother had a house in Sandbank, and when she later got a house built in Melrose for my great-grandparents, she called it Ardenbank, a combination of Ardenadam and Sandbank.
Going back to Jeanie Deans, in the early BR era when she had the black dining room windows, she had two gold lines along the hull just below the white of the superstructure.
