Website changes...
« on: October 27, 2009, 04:37:14 AM »
Hi guys,

The Portal that we use, that's the bit of software that generates the menu down the left of the screen, and ties everything together, is being abandoned by it's developers...... It has numerous bugs already, some of them are security related, and obviously they will never be fixed now. :(

So we need to change to another Portal, but because so much of the software is heavily modified to work with the old one, we also need to change the Photo Gallery and the Book Database programs.

The Photo Gallery has been changed already, and over the next few days I'll start work on rewriting the code that the book database uses. Then we can eventually change the Portal - A lot of work, but it needs to be done! :(

Regards
Eddy

Hi Eddy,
Well logged in this morning, and thought, "that's different".
A rather lucid thought for my semi-awake normal state in the morning.
Thanks Eddy, for all the effort in sorting the changes.
Very much appreciated by all
cheers

I'm nowhere near finished yet, but I've made a start..... Still a lot of odds and ends to sort out!

At least we're now up and running on the new Portal, so hopefully that should eliminate the security issues.

Regards
Eddy

Hi Eddy,

many thanks for your hard work to keep our forum running. There is one point i can't understand, why do they chance the softward so often? at the beginning of last year you had a lot of work because of some chances and now again.

so again, many thanks for your hard work, regards Hans

Yes, it's different. More 'clean cut'.  I like it, Eddy.    :bravo

Hoping I don't introduce new bugs by surfacing after several days in bed with mystery illness after visiting grandchildren. Amazing how one loses immunity to kids.

Seriously, many thanks Eddy for your continued hard work on our behalf. :respect

Guess who forgot to add a "redirect" to the main Paddleducks webpage to go to the new Portal !

Without it, it would load some of the old code and some of the new - creating a total mess and LOTS of errors! Ho-hum, the joys of running a website! ;)

My apologies to anyone that was affected by my ommission - Hopefully all should be okay now.

Unless you refresh your browsers cache it won't be working for much longer Derek - Later today the old code will be removed from the website!

Just wanted to be sure you'd done it Derek, or you'd be playing holy hell with me when Paddleducks apparently vanished! :)

The Paddleduck will return, but I need to change a lot of other code before it can be done, so it may take a while.... We can have a party for him when he gets back  :gift
