Hello Gerald, as far as I am aware Vegimite is a spread for sandwiches similar to Marmite. Except the difference being it is made from vegetables rather than meat extract (similar to Bovril or OXO). Neither of which I must say appeal to me, and I've got quite a healthy and unscrupulous appetite

cheers

Jim

p.s. give me haggis or skirlie and I'm a happy Scotsman  :D

Vegemite, Marmite, Haggis, Skirlie?

It's like a different language isn't it? :-)

As far as I'm concerned, if it doesn't come in a Madras sauce with Pillau rice I'm not interested!  :sunglasses

PD's - the secret is that vegemite is a by product of BREWERS YEAST & thats why it so yummy - I remember Olivia Newton-John & Pat Carrol opened a shop in London in the '60's called "kangaroo blue" & sold the famous Vegemite to all the ex-pat Aussies - a traditional Australian Sunday breakfast is Vegemite on toast & washed down with a Fosters  :beer - Derek

Well, you have to admit we cover everything on this site - from Paddlers to Vegemite sandwiches! Who could ask for a more diverse range?

Though I do wonder about some of our members priorities - Surely it's beer FIRST, then a good curry? Or a vegemite sandwich if you live in Oz?

I think I'll stop there before I offend someone! :-)

Where did the thread to Vegemite Start?

on ya Jock - I was too modest to suggest that vegemite sandwiches turns our OZ kids into the worlds best at everything - but seriously, 2 or 3 vegemite sandwiches & a cup of tea before venturing onto that great blue ocean is all that is needed - so based upon this I still consider that vegemite has a nautical link to chosen topic of paddlers - do a GOOGLE search on the "V" word & you will be supprised what you find

Lastly - no Eddie you could never offend an Ozzie - cause Vegemite makes us super tough  :weight - Derek

I'm a fussy eater so the majority of my diet at home or on school camps has been vegemite sandwiches. And brilliant do they be. However for some reason the majority of travellers that come to Aus don't like it.
And it's owned by America now...we just can't hold on to anything now a days.

I just did a 'google search' on both Vegemite and Marmite, they say that both are made from yeast extract, brewers yeast in the case of Vegemite. Marmite is mostly yeast extract but has a lot of other additives (celery extract and various vitamin supplements) - but no meat products...
...I like both but prefer Vegemite  :)

It all sounds similar to haggis and oatmeal, which caused the Scott's to invent good ale and whiskey to wash it all down with! I think I will settle for some good well done Canadian roast beef with horseradish and a nice coffee to wash it down.

Gerald

  Vegimite! Curry! to use an old scots expression AWA AND BILE YER HEIDS!  It dosn't matter what you eat as long as it was purchased on board a preserved paddler.  PS Eddy does like a beer before - long before - his curry which is a blessing as we were all in bed before his gut reaction started!

Up here anything to do with pizza and Brewers Yeast products is preferred with the pizza on a plate and the Brew in a glass and served cold.

Gerald
