A newbie with questions
« on: April 05, 2009, 05:33:01 AM »
Hi to all.  As a newbie to paddleducks a little about myself and some questions.

I’ve been into RC boat modelling off-and-on since 1970, interspersed with bouts of model engineering (traction engine) and DIY.

The two paddlers in my current RC fleet include:

Sternwheeler Zulu, built from plan MM1329.  Fabricated brass wheel, electric drive via ‘home brew’ ESC.

Quarter-wheeler Lulonga, built from a Model Boats plan from mid 90’s (I think), but scaled by 1.5 to give boat circa 40 inches long and 12 inches beam.  Fabricated plastic wheels with independent drive, two ‘home brew’ ESC driven via a ‘home brew’ mixer, no rudder.

A Mississippi sternwheeler built from a Krick kit and a Director class paddle tug built on a Kingston f/g hull have also been in the fleet in the past, but no longer.

Now my questions.  Having recently retired and having more modelling time available I’m looking to build another paddler.  Having scanned a few sites on the web, the boat currently at the top of the list is ‘Bournemouth Queen’, MM1375, with a plank-on-frame hull, which can apparently be built over-scale depth for stability. (Had to do the same for Lulonga!)

Has anybody built a ‘Bournemouth Queen’?

Is it good on the water?

Any issues with the plans?

Thanks for any help

Welcome to Paddleducks Brian...

I know that one of our moderators, Walter Snowdon, has a model of the Bournemouth Queen. I don't know if it was built from the plan you mentioned though, but hopefully he'll jump in and give you some info....

Hi, I know of a Bournemouth Queen. A very nice model and looks great on the water.

Talisman,

Thanks for pictures.  Looks good to me.

I'll send for the plans today.

Regards.

Brian.
