Private Messaging

Hi Eddy
some explanation for a dummy please!

I sent (I think!) a private message to Walter - why is it that the message doesn't appear in the 'outbox' part of the private message page, and how does one know if the message has been 'delivered'? I noticed when I PMd you that although it appeared to work, I had no indication that the message had been sent - or received.

Thing is I don't know if Walter got my message and I don't want to keep sending others if I am just missing the obvious. I've read the section on messaging and - well perhaps I'm thick. Please explain!

Stuart

Hi Stuart,

Sadly there isn't a way of knowing if a PM has been received - it's one of the things I think is lacking in this software!

Having said that, I know that Walter HAS received your PM, as we we're talking about it less than an hour ago, and I know he is sorting out the plans you requested....

Regards
Eddy

Ah - um, no Walter - I have had no reply. This is what really promted me to ask about messaging as I was sure if you had had the message you would have replied!

Okay Stuart, I've made some changes since you brought up the subject of not knowing if a PM has been read or not..... It requires you to edit your profile, so I'll try to explain how it works...

#1. Click on "Profile" at the top of the screen.
#2. Click on "Personal Message options" in the left hand menu.
#3. Put a tick in the box which says "Save a copy of each Personal Message in my outbox by default".

Now if you go to view PM's by clicking on "My Messages", you can select "Outbox" to view any messages you've sent - There are three possible icons next to each message, they are:

#1. A Closed Envelope - The message has NOT been read (ie. It hasn't been opened by the recipient).
#2. An Open Enveleope - The message HAS been read (ie. It HAS been opened by the recipient).
#3. An Enveleope with a Plus symbol - You have replied to that message.

Remember that you must edit your Profile - Or any messages you've sent will NOT be in your Outbox, so there will be nothing to check!!

I hope that all makes sense? Any questions, please fire away....

Regards
Eddy

Just to make sure your happy with it, you can send me a PM and then view it in your Outbox - Until I read it, it will have a Closed Envelope symbol, but as soon as Ive read it the Open Envelope will appear....

Try it and although I'm sitting here now, I'll deliberately NOT read the message for 10 minutes.....

Eddy

P.S. Yes it's perfectly possible that Walter has made a mistake.... He admits himself that he's not the brightest when it comes to computers! :hehe

Of course there is a downside to this new feature.......

Now I can't pretend that I haven't received a message!!! :(

There has to be some software to reseal the envelope after you've read the message!!

Hi Stuart and Eddy. My fault entirely. Ive checked my outbox and message was sent BUT somehow I posted it to myself. Any way ive sent another reply. Just in case, Stuart, send me your address and I will post plans. Sincere aplogies to all,  but once I can get a STEAM or clockwork computer that can talk to me i will be OK. regards, walter.

I feel the same way Walter, and I used to do computer work, what I really want is one from Star Trek that understands what you want not what you tell it.

Gerald
