Welcome! If you've never built a model ship before (paddle or otherwise) and want to start with something simple (you say models that can be made easily), it may be worth trying one of the Model Boats Magazine paddlers, Phantom or Tipstaff, or maybe the Australian type one in Marine Modelling International. They've all been talked about on here and I'm sure someone has even built one and could recommend (or otherwise) it as a starting point...
