Introduction from Australia-another one!
« on: November 04, 2008, 02:34:09 PM »
Hello one and all. My name is Peter Knowles, I live in Port Macquarie New South Wales. Getting on in years but still very keen and active.I have built a number of models over the years and am currently building Old Trafford. Why Old Trafford? There is a somewhat tenuous link in that (a) Iwas born in Manchester, not far from Old Trafford and
(b) My great grandfather was employed in the building of the Manchester Ship Canal.
All my models are scratch built with the exeption of the one and only kit I ever bought, that being the City of Bath, which was an absolute disaster. Nuff said! There is lots more for those interested but for now,Hello and cheers.

Welcome to the forum Peter. I for one would be most interested in seeing (and hearing about) any and all of your models.

Hi Peter,

I am new here to.......

 The first thing that struck me was how friendly this forum is, things seem very encouraging and helpful around here, hope we have many years of help and helping other.

Just got my first lathe, and can't wait to build my first steam or air powered engine, got the flywheel done, just waiting to get a milling attachment for Christmas (I hope),

All the best lad,

Steve  ::)

Many thanks for your very warm welcome.After a long lifetime experience I am firmly of the opinion that most hobbyists,if that is the right word, are friendly people regardless of theyre particular interest.
As a career I have been involved in aircraft maintenance ommencing my apprenticeship on Manchester,Lancaster York and Tudor aircraft with A.V.Roe at Ringway airport, now Manchester International! People ask me why I build model boats rather than model aeroplanes. My reply is that aeroplanes provide me with a living and when I get home I don,t want to know any more. My first boat was a freelance semi scale hard chine motor lauch powered with a compression ignition engine(who needs smoke generators?) and cotrolled (thats a laugh) by a valved receiver and clockwork E.D.servo. The mind boggles!
