Hello Brian, welcome along to the virtual club. The beuaty of this club is that you can drop in at anytime have a glass or cup of whatever is your pleasure, pass the day with your mates and possibly even be inspired to make the journey to the workshop/rom/table and do a little modelling. What more can you ask for peace, serenity and patience a great place to be.
From your handle are you in the north of the North Island? I have a good few friends out on the Islands of the long clouds but are all on the South one.

cheers

Jim

Hi Brian, what part of the country are you in? I am in Waihi and Harry D (Kiwi) is in Hamilton. If you are not already aware of it could I reccommend the Scale Marine Modellers Club (they have a website). For members who live outside the big smoke they only charge $15 a year for associate membership. I see Harry has just joined up. You get a useful little newsletter each month and if you have a suitable piece of water they will come and visit any associate members. They were in Waihi in Sept, will be in Hawera later this month, Camdridge in Nov and Hamilton in Feb. Well worth joining if scale or semi scale boats of any genre are your interest. Cheers, Ian.

Thanks for the welcome.

I live in Wellington and at this stage have not looked for a club or such.
Most of what I think I know comes from books and magazines.

Have limited access to a mates lathe so any project will be very protracted to completion.

At this point my main interest has been in steam engines.

Also have some knowledge about electronics.

Read lots about wind power and other things of interest to me.
Currently am in middle of converting a smart drive (washing machine) motor into a 3 phase dynamo.

so many projects so little time....
Dang...

Brian

Hi Brian,
Welcome again, Wellington is my home town, (a long time ago) and best of luck with the smart drive, my brother was one of the team who designed them, and I built about 10 years ago, a solar car using two of the drives as wheel motors, (with the controller board from the washing machine) for the Adelaide-Sydney solar race, in Australia.
Would be interested in seeing photos of your steam engines etc
