Hi all, I have just returned from a short break to the Isle Of Wight, were I had the pleasure of going on a cruise from Yarmouth (IOW) to Weymouth and back on the paddle steamer WAVERLEY, so impressed was I that I would now like to attempt to model her, so here I am looking for resource material, if any one can help or point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.

Welcome to the group.

One of the members of the group, Tug Kenny, is currently building the Waverly and has included step-by-step photographic documentation of the build. So to start with you may wish to go to his post and follow along as he nears completion.

The July 1993 Model Boats magazine has an article on her. The downloads section contains a copy of this article, just keep posting and it will be available to you soon. The Gallery section has a few pictures of models of her and quite a few members have numerous pics of the real thing. So you'll have access to a lot of material in order to build her.

Like I said, keep posting and let everyone here know what you need. There are a lot of "experts" that have a wealth of knowledge and are eager to share.

Hi PD's ...& welcome Bazza.........[is your surname Mackenzie by any chance? ]...one thing to be careful here is the fiberglass hull on e-bay is listed as 53 1/2" long...........

The following posting from Eddy on 29/6 re the Doug Kenny Waverley build confirms the hull that Doug is working is 60" long or a true scale of 1:48

Your hull is definately 1/48 scale Ken - or as near as makes no difference.... Waverley is 240 feet long, so 240/48 = 5 feet (or 60").

So any 1:48 scale accessory mounted on this 53 1/2" hull would appear just that little bit TOO small

Then again a good quality hull at a bargin price could be modeled on any other paddler....there were literally hundreds of paddlers from the early 1800's to early 1900's in British waters

BUT...where are you going to get scale accessories that are larger in scale than the standards???......

I'm back from my little Hols' and trying to catch up with all the news. 

I've just seen this expired Ebay hull and it is a little small. As I mentioned in my blog, mine was obtained from Waverley models at a cost of £85.

This might be a good starting point for you, as you will have to make everything else for her, and at least you will have the scale right.
