BOILER SIZE

Hi, can anybody please point me towards info either on the net or in books on how to work out what size boiler a particular engine needs? I have a Saito V4 which is currently hooked up to a Cheddar boiler, a Puffin I think, which is obviously not big enough as it will not maintain pressure at anything over half throttle. The Saito is 9mm bore by 10mm stroke by 4 cylinder which by my calculation makes it 2.52cc. I also have a 5/8 by 5/8" single (3.2cc) which needs a boiler. I presume there must be a formula which tells you how much surface area is needed to produce enough steam for a particular size of engine? Thanks, Ian.

Boiler:

As big as possible like the cubic inches of a Chevrolet.

And internal, heateed surface as wide as possible.

Sandy from ACS also posted quite a number of articles...again in our downloads.....

As a rule of thumb....it appears that the professional model engine/boiler manufactures have got it down to a reasonably fine art in that their package offerings will provide say 30 to 40 minutes steaming be their engines  of ....2 CC or 6CC....& then all of the extras...boiler feed pump...larger gas tank....gas regulators...computer boiler control & all or some of these are valid bits & pieces if you want & can afford them.....

One variation here....Monahan seem to have used  higher water capacity boilers for engine/boiler package   that the French manufacturers ....which is not a bad thing when comparing US$ to EURO.....Derek
