Hello,

very interesting Page. It would be not too difficult to make a well functionating live steam model of the "Clermont".
Is anyone informed, what happened about the intention for building a steam driven replica in original size in 2008/2009?
Thank you for the link

Feel free to join the Fulton's Followers Group which is posted in the link.

Robert Fulton, his boats and their steam engines are the focus of this Group. Our goal is to bring people together and share our common interest in Fulton.  Our archives will be a resource for those researching Fulton and his contributions to our industrialized World.

Thomas,

To answer your question about the SAUGERTIES FULTON STEAMBOAT FOUNDATION's plan to build a 2nd full size replica.

The group is no longer in existence as far as I know. Apparently when the funding for such an undertaking was beyond their means the founders became discouraged and tossed in their hats.

I remained interested in Fulton and his boats and have become involved with several folks with common interest. One has built a seven foot model based on drawings that I gave him and his own research. The results of his work are now part of the permanent display at the Clermont Historic Site.

I am now spearheading a group of volunteers, FULTON's FOLLOWERS, in the building of an animated engine that will demonstrate how the linear motion of the engine was converted to rotary motion at the Paddlewheels. I applied for and received a grant from NY State to help with the expense of the project. We are all donating are time and materials so the grant might provide services that we couldn't have previously considered.

If you would like more information on what we are doing and our progress drop me a line.

Hello,

I now got the plans of Fultons "North river steamboat" by Taubman plans in US.

The drawings are not very exact and neat, but if one revises the plan, it would be possible to make a fascinating live steam driven model.
