Hello,
I have build the "Pilat" in 1989/1990. She is steam driven by a oscillating engine of 10 mm bore and 20 mm stroke.
In Europe the model relative often was build, at Sinsheim steam in Germany meeting I saw 2 or 3 Pilats in the last years.
The model is very stabil in the water, because of the wide hull and the less superstructure, it gives a good performance.
It was not a Rhine tug, but a tug on river Rhone.
Unfortunately nearly nothing about the original is known, and in France no river or lake paddlesteamer is still existing, as I know not even as a wreck or in altered situation. I even dont know, on which basic source Bernard Retif draw the plans and what differs about the original except of the lenght. He reduced the lenght of the hull, the original "Pilat"approximately was 65 meter long, the correct lenght in 1 : 33 scale would be 197 cm!
Greetings
Thomas
