Hi All
« on: January 10, 2008, 05:01:20 AM »
Hi I'm new to modeling and this is my first time at Forums.
I have just finished a simple oscillating steam engine and I’m about to build the boiler,  the completed unit will be fitted into a fiberglass boat that I have already, ready for the summer.
In the January Sales I picked up a book on Glasgow & South Western Steamers and thought that a model of one of these paddle steamers could be my next project – always looking ahead – searched the net for some of the names and under Glen Sannox and I found this forum.
I don’t know anything about Forums but are there any pictures, drawing or plans of this or similar boats and how do I find them?

Hope I'm not a pain and thanks for any help

Hi paul, welcome to Paddleducks.  As Jim says we are a friendly bunch :)

One of our moderators Walter Snowdon, a fellow member of Darlington & District MBC, is very keen on GLEN SANNOX and will no doubt reply to you when he sees your post.  There are certainly a number of photos of the ship in our photo gallery, look under Walter's personal gallery.  I've attched a photo of a colour print from a book I have, perhaps it will help.
Cheers from Bob Golder

hello Paul, sorry for the belated reply- I agree with you, the Glasgow and southwestern paddlers are amongst the most handsome ever built. The Mitchell Library  in Glasgow have several GSWR plans including the Glen Sannox and have a good copying service. Do you have access to Model Boats magazine?. over the winter they ran a series of articles on Building the Glen Rosa  at 48th scale. ( see books magazine section for dates). Best of luck and dont hesitate to ask questions. By the way,  where on the planet do you live?.  regards, walter.

Hi thanks for the info on the magazine I will look into it, I live in the UK. North Yorkshire, Scarborough.

I have just finished my first steam engine it's a  twin oscillating to my own design however the boiler failed the pressure test - internal cross tube leaking *****  I decided that the leak was due to me using the wrong flux,  the next boiler is on the way, the engine is to go into a fiberglass tug hull just to get me on the water as it were.

Looking ahead I would like to try a paddle steamer and like the look of the Glen Sannox so I'm currently gathering information on possible engines and plans build details.

Hello Paul:

Welcome aboard...sorry to hear your first boiler had the internal leak, but sounds like you have a great attitude about it...I think we have all had a similar experience, I used to be particularly adept at having a faulty silver solder joint at a hidden area!

Look forward to seeing your boat as it comes together.

I have found everybody very helpful on this forum group, I am sure you will find the same.

Regards,
Cliff
