A Sternwheeler on the move.

Hi all.... what do you think of these pics then?

I was sent these by a family member as part of a slide show.
The Moving truck is one of a fleet of super submersible load carriers and they are MASSIVE, as can be seen in some of the pics.

They come along, deliberately sink themselves, the load is moved into place and then they, re-float themselves, thus lifting the load from the water. Some kinda magic me thinks.

It must take a captain with nerves of steel to sink his own ship as far as these guys do.... no doubt, praying the chief engineer doesn't drop, or loose the cork at the critical moment.

Anyway, the pic with the sternwheeler was the one that made me think you would like to see them. I have no knowledge of the name of the Sternwheeler, but it looks like it could be one of the 'Belles'...anyone got any other suggestions.

Eddie, I was unsure which area to post these, since they are a somewhat in between subject.
I am sure you will be able to re-direct them to their proper place if you feel the need.

Looks like the gambling boat now at Detroit as DETROIT
PRINCESS, but can't be absolutely sure. She's now
running dinner cruises.  There was once a fake
sternwheel, but it's no longer there.

Thanks Sandy - I've seen these semi-submersible ships before, but I've never seen them sunk to the level in your photos!!

I've been on a few ships in my time in the merchant navy, and some of the "so called" captains were drunk most of the time - I think these guys must be drunk permanently!!

That is how the USS Cole was brought back for repair after the Terrorist attack on her. She had to set somewhat crooked to fit on the dry-dock ship.

The photos posted is of the ship itself sinking. I read about it on another post. Something about the flood valves wouldn't close. I don't remember what the conclusion was.
