hi guys,my name is tom bowen and i just joined your forum,i live in oklahoma, usa.i have been working on a dumas creole queen and needless to say the wood is pretty bad.the only real problem i have had is their 1/8 strips,i don't know where they got them at but i could do as well with my knife.one of the main questions that i have is where are the doors on this thing, dumas does not show any doors in their plans and i would like to make it more realistic.is there anyone that might have pics or tell me where they should go. i am really injoying reading and looking thru your web site,i may have to build one from scratch, the only problem where i live there is no hobby shops for at least 45 miles away so i mailorder a lot of stuff.what would be a good build for a first time scrach build?thanks,  tom

Tom, I'm here in north east Kentucky. Don't have any photos of the Creole Queen, but you should be able to find some doing a search on the net.

As far as a first time scratch build goes, consider trying a 1:32 scale model of Lady Lois. It's a pretty simple sternwheeled towboat. It's still in service today pushing crane flats on the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers.
Photos of a model i built can be viewed at http://www.towboatjoe.com/lois.htm

thanks for the reply, but i have been searching the web and can't find any pics that show where the doorways are,i guess i will just have to keep searching.the lady lois looks like a easy boat to build, looks good,i notice you have the old style speed control,i've been using the new speed controls where you don't have to use a servo and they work excellent.thanks a lot,  tom  ps, where do i get the plans for this boat?

Hi Tom,
Go to Google and type in "Creole Queen" using quote marks, rather than searching web, search images instead (just above where you typed in).

I can send drawings and photos of lois. Just email me at towboat@windstream.net

If you go to my personal photo gallery, I posted a couple of photos of Creole Queen and pointed out where the doores are. I noticed from photos of the real boat and the DUMAS model there are some inaccuratecies (is that a word?)

sorry about the late reply. I'm also building the CQ. From what I gathered where dumas gives you two small windows, instead of the normal sized ones, those would be the door glass. hope it helps  greg w

hi greg, thanks for the reply, towboat joe sent me some good pics of the real boat and i kinda figured out from that, also i just used logic where i would put them if i was designing the boat.they may not be where they are exactly on the real boat but i think they look good.i have strayed away form the plans on a few things anyway so i guess it doesn't make a lot of difference.i don't like the decal railing so i made them all the same as the main deck.to me decals just don't get it.i have been doing a build pics as i go i should do a build thread on it,but i have so many it would take forever to download i might start one a few at a time.tom

Tom  I would love to see your pics. I don't like the decal idea either but I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I have thought about photo etch for the lattice work but haven't worked up the courage/energy to try that yet. Greg
