Echuca steam rally

Since returning from Myanmar (making May RNV late anyhow) I have had too many social and club events to complete the issue for Monday, or even Thursday: I am aiming to do the layout over the long weekend.  There will be no steam trains to Echuca for the rally this year.  Steamrail did not like the 80 km/h path offered on the expensively-rebuilt railway to Bendigo: it offered too little time in Echuca.  It is holding out for a 100 km/h path, as has been available for years on the unrebuilt railway (and my first, in June 67, was allowed 115 km/h).  I also don't have $100 000 in my cheque account.  Still, seeing Hero in action and meeting other PDers is a temptation.

I will most definately be at Echuca from early Saturday morning to late Tuesday night. I am working at the Port on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Would love to catch up with other PDers. As I said I will be working on the boats and the steam saw mill display, but would love to catch up!
Just let me know times and places!

Hi PDs,
Just curious as to thous members still in the Commonwealth what day do you celebrate the Queens bithday? Up here its the May 24 weekend(the Monday before the 24th.. We even had a rime about it when I was a child. "the 24th. of May is the Queens bithday, if we don't get a Holiday we will all run away" The highlight was always the fireworks in the evening, with the last thing being the burning of a model schoolhouse.
Regards

I will need to perform miracles to have May RNV completed for the printer by Saturday night to spare Sunday for a day return to Echuca.  As you can see in the Echuca News topic, I left Melbourne at 13.50 on Saturday to go aboard PS Pevensey at 17.00 for the planned 17.30 castoff for Michael's 21st birthday dinner party (don't rush the pms yet - the actual birthday is 24.7, so rush them then).  After spending the night at Echuca, I got home and back to the computer at 11.00 Sunday.

Ok we had one of the best rally's so far with many steam exhibits.
And of cousre the model boats were out doing there thing!
Both paddle steamers sold at the auction PS Ranger $139,000 and PS Henry Charles $164,000 both going to  local residents.
The river has also came up 3ft over the past week, so we took PS Billy Tea out for a cruise for a couple of hours, PS Hero was also out on a family trip.
Camped the night onboard Billy Tea and this morning we got some things off the Ranger and tinnied them up to the onion patch to take home, even a BBQ which was a bit scary.

great picture's taken by michael I had a few myself but there isn't any point doubling up :D
The auction was interesting many items up for sale but experience was needed as that "bargin" could quite easily have tuned into a nightmare
Later that afternoon we saw michael and luke blast along past us in billy tea,but our minds were caught up in conversation with the owner of the adventurous....after being showen around the vessel we had to leave.
our conversation was over heard by a stranger how for the past 3-4 years we have been wanting to build a paddler.
After meeting up again in melbourne  we have found some steam engines and boiler that didn't make it to the auctions this year! lucky us :D
so our project may kick off again or we will have a steam museum in the middle of garden......

cheers anthony
