Hello Paddleducks,

My name is Ned Feary and I have recently become very interested in paddlesteamers and the Murray River. I live in Norwood, South Australia and I am 8 1/2 years old. I am in Grade 3 at Primary School.

My dad and I just went on a holiday where we drove from our house down to Goolwa, and then all the way up to Echuca along the river. We went on five PV's - the Rothbury, the Pyap, the Emmylou (overnight),  the Pevensey and the Melbourne. I got to steer three of them- the Rothbury, the Emmylou and the Melbourne.

My aunt found a old wooden model of the Pyap in a market which she bought for me for $5.  I will need some advice on how to make a funnel- which is missing - and floodlights- which are also missing.

I will see if I can take some pictures of this model and post them so you can see it.

One day I would like to build a working model of the PS Marion which is at Mannum and which I have also been on- three times!
(p.s. my dad helped me type this message)

Ned, nice to hear from you.   You are making a good early start to the hobby and I hope you enjoy it.   Try and get your Dad involved as well.   I am about nine times your age but still enjoy my model boats.  Oldie.

Good to have you with us Ned - We need more young-uns to keep these old vessels running in future years.

I hope you'll enjoy your stay with us, and that your interest in paddlers turns into a life long passion for them.

Hello there young Ned,

It is good to have someone of such tender years showing such an interest in paddle vessels, and in making models of them.

I am sure you will find plenty to interest you on this site and also a lot of  assistance, as and when you feel the need for it.
Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if they may seem trivial, we have all had to learn, and are continuing to learn.
Above all, we are here to help and will be more than happy to do so.

From your introduction, it would seem that your Dad is more than willing to help get you started in the right direction, and he has my utmost admiration for this...I am sure he will continue to do so and perhaps even get involved himself.

Welcome aboard the good ship PD.

Best Regards.

Sandy.
