New ship for the Zurichsee
« on: April 21, 2007, 05:06:58 AM »
Hi to all of you, i know it's not a paddle steamer but i like the story.

Two years a go the ZSG (Zurichsee ship association) has decided to buy a new ship during the period of building it was called MV 700 it means that it can carry 700 passengers. In my opinion the ship look's awful like an greenhouse, with an has ans unsuitable name "Panta Rhei"

The building was a story of delays, the whole project was more then 2 month to late. Some problems are home made by some special new things, like an fine dust filter for the engines/exhaust. When the ship was launched you can see that it wasn't' right balanced the bow was out of the water and the stern was to deep in it.

Four weeks a go the new ship entered service for scheduled services, but after a few day's they found some problems the worst is, the hull creates to big waves this may cause's damages on the shore and within the reeds.

After two week's of service the new ship was laid up till they know where are the problems came from. Some experts were asked for an investigation about the problem. Yesterday the gave an report about the investigation. The main thing is the ship is to heavy, the shipyard has calculated around 390 tons but the real weight is 450 tons. I can't belive how to add 60 tons to a ship like this.

The only idea now is to use the ship for special cruises with slower speed then as scheduled service. If you would like to see photos from the building of the ship go to www.zsg.ch

Best regards Hans

Sounds like the early days of the STADT LUZERN on  Lake Lucerne in 1929, when she saw very little service and had to have a new  engine the following year

I don't like the way the windows look.....but in my opinon the ugliest boat I've ever seen is the 'symphony' on the Thames ( http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/ThamesBoats/Naticia_Symphony-01.jpg ) it really does look like a greenhouse, in fact the first time I saw it, I thought it was part of charing cross pier!
