Steam - Boiler - PIEZZO Quartz Ignition
« on: February 04, 2007, 11:52:29 PM »
Hi PD's - as Eddy asks....

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but does anyone do a piezzo ignition system suitable for model boilers? I was just thinking it would eliminate the potential problems with lighting a boiler down the funnel.... It could be something worth considering to add to your line of products Sandy?

Hi All,
I haven't tried one on a boiler yet, but you can get spares for BBQ and some of the small camping stoves. As to how well they would work is a guess, I haven't had one on the BBQ work for more than a year.

Gerald

Hello all

A few years ago Bruce engineering used to sel Pizzo igniter kits for model boilers. They have recently been taken over by Polly Models, and I would guess that they are still available.
Ten years or so ago I built a plant which used a return flue boiler for a friend near San Fransisco, and to the best of my knowledge it is still working OK.

Hi Derek,
I still have an old Cheddar models piezo ignition on my boiler.
It works great, for so long then will not ignite the gas.
The problem is that the spark would jump from the metal tip of the igniter to the brass centre screw that holds the burner element in place. When this screw got dirty it would not work and a boiler stripdown was required just to clean the screw.
