Here's a short photo history of how ferrys have progressed here in the Ohio valley where I live.

Here's a local paddle ferry and one that I intend to be my next project - once all the subs are finished! This is one of the (4) Forth car ferries that were used up until the Forth Bridge opened. The one I intend modelling is 'Sir William Wallace' but I am in a quandary as to the scale I should build it to. The obvious scale  is 1/48th but I'm tempted to use 1/43rd so that vintage Dinky toys could be 'parked' on board.

Very neat, Andrew..and a good idea about the old Dinky's at 1:43.  Have you managed to locate a set of plans for the ship yet?

Yes - I managed to get a set of plans (at considerable expense!) from the National Maritime Museum. They hold most of the original Denny plans. These have now been re-scaled to 1/43rd so some progress has been made. Still contemplating the next steps though.

Andrew was good enough to send me a copy of the plans for the "Sir William Wallace" at 1:43 scale, so it's on my list of paddlers waiting to be built.... Does anyone have any decent photos of the boat? I've only managed to find one or two, so if anyone could help with some more I'm sure that both Andrew and I would be very grateful...
