Paddle Steamer Photo Sorting
« on: July 07, 2005, 11:19:50 AM »
I've decided to finally start cataloguing all my photos of the Murray!

I began sorting my Odd photos, theres around 40 now that I've labelled for that and have sorted, but thats a mere tip of the ice berg!

I also began to sort out my "Current" list which is a collection of photos of every steamer on the murray at the moment with 1 photo for each of them. Theres roughly 30 photos in that collection...but currently unlablled.

Next thers the Old photos collection which inlcude photos that people have given me (thanks LNER and my parents etc) of older steamers etc. Theres not many in that collection yet.

The biggest collection of photos howvere exsists on my compuiter and as soon as I can I will begin to sort thewm out, properly with specail catalogued names for each one! Then I will create and index for them so they are easily accesible! Ther has to be close to 1000 didgital shots that I have and I plan on scanning in other shots to my computer!

Last there is my "odd Bods" colection which includes post cards, tickets, small booklets, business casrds etc.

And we won't go into my newspaper/brochure/tourist news collection etc!

i have alot to sort we'll leave it at that!

Hi there

Go for it - before the job gets too big or you forget the details!

I've got about 8000 sllides of steam ships and steam railways that I took in the 1970's - some are awful and some I am rather pleased with but I want to keep them all for the memories they bring back.

Sometime soon I am going to have to invest in a scanner and load them onto the PC to get a permanent, secure backup before they deteriorate. I know where and when they were taken, but producing proper captions will be a nightmare and I am dreading the whole job - it will take ages.

So make a start now - and you'll be glad you did later as I am sure your collection is very important to you.

Good luck   :luck
