Still alive here in Auckland ... although the winter has been wet and
windy, so not much sailing time to be had!
I've posted three pictures to my Kiwi Paddler/PT Reliant photo
folder. Made some great progress in the last two months on the
superstructure and am now at the stage of tarting up the assembly.
I've not long started detailing the fore and aft decks and expect to
be launching a largely completed boat by end October. That allows
enough time after the equinoxes for the weather to settle and warm up
a little more - yeah, yeah, fair weather sailors and all that!
Bathtub trials have been successful. Initial tests on the big pond
were OKish, but a bit too much wind for that massive sail of a
funnel! Looked pretty good in the one small pocket of stillish air on
our pond.
On other projects, I've had some success in finding a variety of
early pictures of my double ender Britannia, but the plans still
elude me. I've been doing a bit of doodling on hull lines and hope to
start carving up some blue foam within the month to see what I can
bodge up in that department. I rather suspect that the first six
months of the build will be spent developing hull, superstructure and
general arrangement plans but at least I've a reasonable variety of
images to work from.
The idea of doing a sternwheeler is tickling my fancy as well - kinda
like the Thomas A. Edison as a subject, although the style of the
African quarterwheelers is also appealing. Plenty of scope for
weathering and atmosphering on the latter.
Good to see the rest of you are still alive and productive.
Cheers for now.
