Tks for the link to Mountaineer. She's a neat old paddler - almost
identical hull length:beam ratio as PS Waverley (7.7:1 vs 8:1) - though
with half the overall length and almost the same draft I imagine that
she'd be a tad more stable as a model.
The exposed bridge would be a bit of an ordeal on Lake Whakatipu during
the winter though. Yeah I know, 'we breed 'em tough in Southland' and
all that, but we're darned near talking "Scott of the Antarctic" weather
at times down there!
The sketch of the feathering paddle wheel interests me. It's the first
I've seen with cranked 'spokes' - would this have been done to add to
the strength of the paddle wheel?
