Hi PD's - I sent this note to Krick but no response to date - does any PD have any experience
with soft soldering white metal parts? - I realise that I can use superglue, but on principal would prefer
not to - any comments greatly appreciated - Derek

Hi Derek, Yes one can solder white metal, BUT, it takes care. There is a very low melt solder made , a match flame will melt it, and you will need a small soldering iron with a fine tip. As there are many mixes of lead/tin in whitemetal you will have to experiment on a scrap piece. Better wash parts well in soapy water, lightly scrape surfaces to be joined and use Cyno [superglue]. I have done both and strongly recomend the glue method. If the items are larger small pins, dress makers, fitted between the parts to be joined will give strength.

Thanks Mike - I tried this today - a 25W soldering iron, zinc {ferric} chloride as the flux & and a [lead/tin/aluminium]
based [Pb & Sn & Al] solder wire worked fine in a puddling mode to fill the V prep between the white metal vent
& the aluminium tube - a totally different method or process in soft soldering brass to brass etc where we can
use the induced heat between components to fluidise the solder etc - regards Derek
