Hi from the Isle of Mull

One ancient modeller here- aircraft and ships mostly.
My Clyde puffer is in the window of the local museum, and my scratch built 'birlinn' inside.
Thinking about a paddler next, so here goes.

hello and a great welcome to you!Two very neat models especially the Bellinni. Is it a named ship or a class of small working/fishing galleys.  Ive never heard of it- reminds me a bit of an enlarged shetlands sixern. Come on, a bit of its history!  A paddler has to be on the cards, but one of the early ones!  Much as I love the Waverley she has been modelled so many times as have Calledonia and Talisman! I have many Lovely memories of Mull especially the many times I took my grandchildren to Tobermory ( Balamory) youth hostel. A lovely island. Regards, Walter.

The birlinn is the medieval West Highland galley; the design changed little between the 13th and 17th centuries. The Viking antecedents are obvious.

Hello birlinn. Thats a nice looking model. Would it be the same as Kishmulls galley?. (One of my favourite Island songs). About 5 years ago L was on Mull with my grown up grandchildren, driving from tobermory to catch the ferry and short of time (as usual) and saw a similiar looking galley in a very small harbour on the coast road. Beautifuly built but little time to take it in. Could it have been a replica? . Regards, Walter
