Hello, I'm fairly new to the site. I do a lot more reading than posting. I started building a Graupner Glasgow last fall. This was my first model boat and I am very excited to say that it had a very successful maiden voyage the other day. It ran perfectly and the smoke looked awesome. I'm now looking for another sidewheeler project. Anyone know of another kit available.

Mamoli makes the l'Orenoque.  I've had one for some time and don't know whether it is still available or not.  but I have seen it ebay occasionally.I think Model Shipways has a small version of the Harriet Lane which can also be made into the  blockade runner  that it became after it was captured. There are plans available for scratch building it.  There is a 1:100 Zvezda plastic model of Sirius that could be rc'ed with small gear. There is a Revell Susquehanna  but cost is off the charts since it is op now but it is big enough. Seems to me the Krick did something a few years ago but can remember for certain. The is a Canadian co that also makes a paddler kit.

It's looks like the mamoli kits are still available. Is the l'Orenoque suitable for rc?

I can't say for certain as I'm only interested in static models. But, it is 1:100 scale, 85 cm long, 45 cm over the boxes and I have incl a few pics to help you decide.

Just looked at the mamoli-set, seems to be a plank-on-frame work. So it should be possible for rc-drive, but you will have to make some extra work for that. The complete deck with all the masts and takelage must be removeable so you can reach the rc-components.

   Having only built one boat so far, it might be a bit more work than my skill level would allow. I really do want to do another sidewheeler though so I guess I'll keep looking.

Try to chose one from the download section, there are paddlers enough to build. It`s far easier, to build a ship without takelage first, then a full "sailing" paddleship. On "normal" paddlers you can learn much better, to make the plank-on-frame work, without takelage to focus on. Most difficult will be to get the whole hull waterproof.

  You might "google" it and see if the kit is cheaper somewhere else. This place has a lot of ship stuff and worth looking at for anyone with "parts" needs.
