The boiler life is surprising [44 years, 48 years & 19 years]
 
1866 to 1936 = new boiler then 70 years ...[minus 26 years out of operation] = 44 years boiler service
1936 to 1984 = new boiler then 48 years service prior to the re-tube
1984 to 2003 = 19 years boiler service prior to the re-tube
 
•It is academic, however interesting why the boiler required re-tubing after only 19 years service compared to the previous tube life
•Chemical boiler treatments have only improved over more recent years
•A consideration may have been the use of ultrasonic NDT examination prior to the 1984? survey which was not available in 1936

The engines are original (Fulton & Shaw) Re-boilered in 1936 made by Buchanan & Brock South Melbourne.
Last big lift for the 10 tonne crane at the wharf. Re-tubed  in 1984 & 2003

• I am in Adelaide [post code 5043 & using Telstra WEB mail] until 22nd August, so there is absolutely no hurry, however this question about the boiler is one that does not appear or explained on any WEB site for PS Adelaide

 
• Last year I was in contact with one of your colleagues from the Council Shire of Campaspe which related to a Shire WEB page that incorrectly referenced HRH Prince Charles as her Royal Highness....from memory the article related to Charles & Diana's visit during Adelaide's rebuild/relaunch......

I think the 26 years out of service was for the second boiler... The Adelaide sat in a park from the '60s until relaunch in '84. Her last trip was in 1960 from Paringa to Echuca.  I'm unaware of her being out of service for that period of time between 1866 & 1936. That was during the height of the river trade and she was definitely in service as a mill boat through the 1920s, so I think it's unlikely that she would have had 26 years out of service before 1936.
