I have just received a whole slew of pictures and such on the two aircraft
carrier conversions that were carried out on Great Lakes ships. If anyone is
interested I can copy same and send it to you. Frankly looked like the
ruination of two perfectly good boats to me.

Mike-
would love to see some of the shots. I was over at a friends house the other
day watching the very well done History Channel documentary on the history of
the battleship and told him that I had heard that there were some paddleboats
in the Great Lake area that were converted to training aircraft carriers and
he didn't buy it. Went to the link that was provided here a couple of weeks
ago and got the picture but unfortunately the paddles didn't show well.
Wondering if some of your shots show the paddle? Just hate it when somebody
says I'm wrong, even if I am!

Bob...you're DEFINITELY NOT WRONG..unless this thing was a huge April
Fool's joke!!

Have a look at the images in Wolv1j.jpg in our "SABLE & WOLVERINE
FOLDER" in our files section at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Paddleducks/files/

Looks a whole lot like paddle boxes and paddle wash to me!..but then
I'm very gullible!! However, I don't think you have a problem with
authenticity here..these ships all very well documented and known to
U.S. Naval Historians in the Great Lakes.

PJ

PS..why don't you invite your friend to "put his money where his
mouth is" and take a bet on it ...it's gotta be worth a $100
bucks...which I'll be happy to split with you when you WIN!!

Yup, Mike..they certainly ended up looking like the "Paddlers from
Hell", but I guess that's what gives them a certain notoriety and
hence a place in Paddleboat history. Now whether or not anybody will
ever model them is an entirely different story!!

I have a file section on the "SABLE" and WOLVERINE" at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Paddleducks/files/

to which you can either upload images directly or send to me to super
compress and then I'll upload them from here...Your choice...but I'm
keen to see these images, as the ones we already have are not very
clear. How many images do you have, Mike?
