What size shaft for Graupner wheels or Barry's, or Talismans?
« on: January 19, 2012, 05:23:39 PM »
Are they all made for a similar standard sized shaft? If so I did not see that spec anywhere. Or if they have a brass hub that can be re-drilled.

Thanks

I can't speak for the others but my wheels suit a 3/16" shaft. Except the stern wheels the Captain Sturt is supplied with a 5 mm shaft and the Delta Queen with a 1/4" shaft.

Thanks - I have 4mm shaftsnow--- a sleeve is not hard to come up with as the bearings in place are also 4mm i.d. and I do not really need to rework the entire drive system..

Thanks fellows

Hi Mogogear,

All my wheels are 5mm Dia shaft except the 105mm rimmed 8 float at 6mm dia.

I do have a few 4mm Dia Hubs (boss) from my initial experiments should you wish a custom set to suit your set up.

Hope that helps
Regards,
Kim

Thanks Kim....

My current budget may not allow for your fine wheels just now- but I sure eye them with a bit of drool in the corner of my mouth. I shall stay the course of prioritization ( a airbrush , attenuators, gears and such for three boats currently underway call for my money) . As does my lilliputian lathe and mill :darn

Thank you for the offer, we shall see what the future holds ;)

Hi Mogogear,

No problem, I completely understand your budget constraints and am trying my very best to keep the cost down for as long as i can...

That said and being a modeler myself on a budget i am looking at a slightly cheaper method of construction ... albeit non feathering ... Mo ...sorry to use your post for this .. Barry, do you fancy having your wheels produced over this side of the pond ....... save postage, Import duties etc.... ?

That said, we do have a range of non feathering etched wheels coming soon ... watch the traders section for more detail..

back out to the shed for me....

Regards,
Kim
