[Southern Belle]

Hey all ...My name is rick and I am new to paddle wheeler modeling.. I am curently building the 1973 Krick "Southern Belle" what a blast!  However I am into authenticity and would like to provide an actual stam plant for power..All the engines I have seen are verticle..any Ideas?

Hey Rick, welcome to the group.
I was just recently researching the Krick "Southern Bell". I never
did figure out it's scale; I read it incorrectly gives 1/72 as scale
on the side of the box.
What's the skinny?

i checked out a southern belle visiting a friend a while back
i think it's more in the 1/48 or 1/32 range
perhaps southern belle could post a picture of a door with a measuretape allongside with it ?
that way we could have a good idea of the scale
1/72 is a HUGE mistake i agree

Hi Rick,
I think what you need is a long stroke horizontal engine similar to a Mill engine. I am not sure what the space is like in the Southern Belle, but most of the current commercial engines are probably too large and heavy for your needs. You may have to fabricate your own.

the adverts for the Krick Southern Belle said it was 37.25" long (but doesn't specify if that was to the back of the sternwheel or just the hull) Having seen a completed one, I'd say it was 1/32 judging by the height of the doors but I may be wrong as didn't have a 1/32 scale figure to place on the deck....  if I remember right there used to be a styrene (?) kit available that was probably 1/72....
