Author Topic: Yarrow Paddle Steamers Pictures and Information Required Please.  (Read 4111 times)

Hi All,
I am in the process of finalizing my research and building the plug for a fibreglass hull for one of Yarrow's Stern Paddlers from the 1890's.
But a number of questions still remain, as in my collection of data, either details are obscured or photos are blurry, and can find no written descriptions which fill in the gaps.
Does anyone on Paddleducks have any photos, sketches or indeed any information on the construction of the Yarrow built steamers from this period.
Information on any paddler between 1880 and 1900 produced by Yarrow & Co. please.
Thank you all in advance
regards

Hi Ian,
The buck for the hull has to be finished and in Auckland next weekend, and your hull should be ready end of the month. RickF has kindly sent me some drawings which has the right lines for the bow, so altering these today. They also show a timber deck. One difference is the Manuwai had fabricated main upper deck beams, while the nile boats had timber.  Thanks for the drawings Rick. Made a trip up to Mercer last week, found the remains, and what I could find, without a major excavation, has cleared up the stern. Ray in Queensland has helped answer a flurry of questions, so the drawings are progressing very well. There will be 4 variations, yours as per Wanganui, and 3 when on the Waikato. Ray's help has been invaluable in this, and without which the drawings would have been at best an approximation. Looking forward to seeing your boat in the water, warm that boiler and engine up, we are nearly there.
Anyone have anything else which will enable more accurate drawings to be made please.

Hi mjt60a,
Thank you for these, must have missed them before, even though I did a search on Paddleducks. I still have grey areas which require answers if anyone has more info on any of the Yarrow designed river boats please.
cheers
