Hi,
A new forum member from Glasgow.
Just recently, my mother was told about the 40th anniversary of the Model Steamer Club of Glasgow and their celebration sail. Due to family circumstances I was unable to attend, but popped down to the pond a few weeks later. Suitably enthused, I have been in contact with Kim about a 'project'.
While I was only a junior member, I guess that I am one of the few members of the Model Steamer Club who was in it 40 years ago when it started and remember well the summers attending shows in Largs and Dunoon and sailing at the 'home' pond in Maxwell Park, and latterly, Rouken Glen. As a wee boy, it was very exciting, especially the evening cruises and shows. I even remember the time we sailed at someone's semi palatial house (so palatial, he had a pond with islands and rocks in it that the steamers could sail around) in Kilsyth or Kilmacolm. It rained.
I also well remember the paddlers that were in the club then:- Duchess of Fife and Columba (George Sutherland), Jeanie Deans and the Glen Sannox(young John McNulty), the Jupiter (Lee, Kim's father's boat), the Duchess of Hamilton and the old Juno(can't remember who the owners were).
My father built a model of the Queen MaryII in its old Williamson Buchanan colours and it still sails today, suitably, fettled by its new owner and seen in the page on Kim's website.
