Hi PDs!
I have decided on my next project(s!). Courtesy of Eddy making the effort to go to the Mitchell Library on my behalf I now have two sets of drawings of lovely quirky but attractive paddlersThe first is a salvage/firetug Dutch owned and operating out of Newdieppe from 1877 called Hercules. She is twin funelled (for and aft) is sail rigged (fore and mizzen) and has the most wonderful vertical boiler and pumps on her foredeck. I shall be building her at 1/32 scale which gives an overall length of about 54inches. I'm going to have to find a generic set of drawings for the hull (lines and frames) as the drawings are only a general arrangment set. After Connaught I can do with a bit less concentration on 'true scale' work and concentrate on the character of the vessel.
The second model is of a Thames penny steamer of 1885. One of three sister ships owned by the Thames Steamboat Compay, at 24th scale she works out at about 50inches and gives the opportunity for loads of detail work without being too big. She has an exposed boiler casing, stacks of benches, a saloon with square windows and the folding funnel found on Thames craft neccessetated by the low bridges.
I shall start a separate thread for each build - but will be making the models in tandem. It'll take a couple of weeks to gather all the materials etc. In the meantime I shall draw up the frames. lines etc and work out my construction methods.
I hope the build logs will be of interest - more later!
I have attached some small pics.
All the best

I must have got the wrong plans Stuart! I went to the Tyne & Wear archives, not the Mitchell Library, so I guess I mucked up?
Seriously, I like both vessels, so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the builds. Especially the Thames penny steamer, that is really attractive.
Regards
Eddy

Sorry Eddy -
I of course meant the Tyne and Wear Archive! I had just looked at a set of Mitchell archive drawing before making the post!
I hope to have the brain cells roughly talking to each other before I start - Duh!

They both will be good I'm sure but I'll be especially interested to see the Rosalind as I'd looked at making one myself before deciding on the 'Liz'
Downloaded the plan from here, considered buying a full size one (still available,I believe) and photographed the science museums model. I'll probably build it one day

Of course! ufortunately, it's not at the front of the cabinet but I'll try to zoom in on any specific areas, I have a few pics on photobucket -

I wondered about the brass levers behind the deck house, don't see them on the plan so maybe it was a live steam model?.... (shame someone broke the mast!)

Thanks for that Mick - more than enough to be going on with! The levers ARE on the plan and are the engine controls (but difficult to spot).
Interesting how different the two boats are.
