New old paddlesteamer built in Sweden
« on: January 13, 2009, 07:51:49 AM »
Hi,

a friend of mine told me this link:

http://www.andreashuebner.de/nordevall/nordevall.html

it is in German, but the link to the original swedisch website ist there, too. But this is heavy to read.

They do a complete reconstruction of this wooden PS including a new built of the mechanics and BEAM Steam engine. A very interesting project, I think. Hope they will let him run in a few years.

A very interesting project! be good to see the completed ship :)
Looks like it has what's often called a 'side-lever' engine (like a beam engine with the beam fitted low down, well below the shaft)

This is what was known as a fiddle-steamer, with the paddle wheels placed inboard, like the shape of a violin.

This was so it could pass through the locks on the Gota Canal
