Paddlers from the Netherlands
« on: June 06, 2010, 03:00:34 AM »
Hollands 2 paddlers seen at the Dordt in Stoom show.

De Majesteit

Kapitein Kok

And finally Tourmalijn, not a paddler sadly but she does a good impression. She is powered by voith units in the sponsons . . .

the third pic looks like 'Wappen Von Koln' - http://www.gioair.de/luftbilder/slides/Wappen%20von%20Koeln.html
when I saw this boat in cologne (about 25 years ago) it was moored with 'DS Rudesheim' and I, being unable to see properly from the shore, thought it was a diesel paddler because of the apparent sponson houses but I see now it's not!

WAPPEN VON KÖLM, WAPPEM VON MAINZ, LORELEY and BERLIN have/had sponsons with Voith-Schneider propulsion units underneath them. The first two re still in the fleet, BERLIN was sold to the Netherlands last year and I think LORELEY was scrapped, so this must be the former BERLIN

There were also some similar but smaller vessels operating on the River Weser between Hamaln and Hann. Münden

De Majesteit home page in Dutch: www.raderstoomboot.nl, but opens with a steam whistle.
clicking brings up the English summary of history and specs
of direct at www.raderstoomboot.nl/index.php?id=2
You have to use the Dutch version to access the full history, techspecs and deckplans.

The photo book is one of those horrible log-in affairs.

There is one photo in a pool of 316 paddlesteamer photos at flickr
http://www.flickr.com/groups/1018258@N23/pool/
That pool seems to be 60% PS Waverley; 19% other UK; 20% Europe, mainly Switzerland.

I am now hunting for a website for PS Amsterdam.

Along the way: cute steam launch De Amstel.
www.canal.nl/groepsarrangementen/en/saloonsteamer

Self-pedalled canal boats:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2U0lRXPxwU

It is not mentioned on
http://paddlesteamers.freehostia.com/PaddleSteamerList.htm
which does have a link back to the De Majesteit page.

It is not in Alistair's Directory of the world's steamships, so I presume that it is diesel.

End of search: nothing found, other than this Paddleducks thread.
