I have ordered one of the Monahan horizontal boilers, and plan to mate it to the Heron engine I already have in my possession.  Once I get everything set up as a bench test unit, I will post some images and a YouTube video as well.  Plans are to do a comparison review of several marine steam engines I own (MH Caton/Anton Crystal/Monahan Heron).

In the mean time I've attached a photo of my Heron engine on the shelf of my shop, neatly nestled between an MH&B boiler and Anton Crystal engine.  The boiler and Anton Crystal are slated for installation in the Topaz kit I recently started....those are the polished boiler bands in the foreground awaiting completion of the wood boiler lagging for steam plant assembly to begin.

Cliff

Hi PD's ....& to Nick from Monahan...but by the time the ELECTRONS get to OZ something is missing [or is it me  :shoot ]

I see with the vertical boiler.... a discharge steam line from the top of the boiler plate>>>>>down to an isolation valve>>>then back into the lower boiler ???????...I am not sure what this is   :whistle

Also at the lower section of the 'jpg I see 3 lines emerging.........but only 2 appear to go anywhere????

Again great work Nick...regards....

Hi Derek,

Good to hear from you. Hows your projects coming along?

The line entering the lower portion of the boiler from the steam stop valve, supplies the super heater coil which is situated in the bottom portion of the boiler. (Super heater works more efficiently in this position) The angle of the photo you have posted shows the copper line exiting the super heater, but then it gets lost behind the engine. What is not clear from this photo is that the line is routed from here to the throttle valve on the opposite side of the engine which again is not visible in this photo. There are additional photo's on our website showing the other side of the steam plant for anyone who might still be curious as to what we are talking about.

Best Regards,

Nick

Hi PD's...& thanks Nick...when I look further into the engine structure I now see the copper line in the horizontal plane behind the engine & then running vertically to the engine control valve & also a glimpse of the line running near the [boiler side] engine lubricator

I had mentioned many months ago of the aesthetic beauty & simplicity of your CAD tube work...being true/square/horizontal & vertical...& this has certainly followed with your finished product  :clap - regards
