A bit of a moan....
« on: October 22, 2005, 08:52:56 PM »
Hi all,

Like most people, I'm a member of a number of different model boat forums, and always try my best to help with any questions if I can - But, is it just me, or has the word "thankyou" gone out of the English language?

How many times do you reply to a question and then never see a simple thankyou in return? It's not a lot to ask is it?

Then again, maybe it's just me being a bit grumpy? But I was brought up believing that a little politeness costs nothing....

I should say that this little moan has been inspired by something that happened on another website, not on Paddleducks!

Hi PD’s – Eddie some three or so years ago I posted an off line note to PJ with concern that the level of our traffic communications was at a near time low – PJ came back & said these things happen Derek & suggested that I just post a note back to start a new thread

So between Tony & Sandy & my humble self over the past month or so we have stories of

Tony’s 1/10 scale crew & the potential for them to stoke the baby coal fired boiler or SCREW something up or down away from shore, Sandy’s recommendation that all backward tube bends when viewed on the opposite side of the equator are actually the same or mirror reversed if you stand on your head, my questioning of Technical Officers who may or may not enjoy sandwiches flavoured with that EASTERN flavour of CURRY & again Sandy’s lectures in the thermodynamic heat transfer between simple slabs of OXEN on the BBQ being fueled by good old OZ EUKIEliptis wood – Oh – the fragrance of  good old OZ EUKIEliptis wood on the BBQ also keeps the MOZZIES away

As Tony noted a week or so ago Eddie – you are doing a great job @ & with our PD’s forum – if others need to be DUMD or RUDE, just politely treat them with respect they deserve

regards Derek
self appointed but humble unofficial spokes person for the other approx 200 PD members

bebebebeb……I will come back with the Irish definition of a SPOKE – but possibly tomorrow

A bit of a moan....

Hey buddy!

Yep.. I know what you mean and I sometimes get a little ticked when the same thing happens in other groups..HOWEVER...what makes up for it are the people who DO acknowledge and send a note, no matter how short.  In fact a brief 2 liner is better than sending nothing as it shows the person has at least taken the time to press the "reply" button! And people's lives do get busy, specially when you've got kids etc. So let me do a little housekeeping here.

1) A huge THANK YOU to all active PD's for the time and energy you take to research and bring such interesting and diversified topics to the forums and with such good nature and cameraderie.   One day we WILL have an International PD Convention!

2) A special THANK YOU to Eddy for having done so much to keep PD's up and running in spite of tremendous pressures at home and to other mods who have kept the true spirit of PD's alive for all to enjoy.

3) Thumbs down,  to the one PD who never replied to a lengthy and thoughtful reply I posted to his query on here, in spite of sending him a PM to make sure he'd received my reply and offer to help.  Long and short...I remember the name, I won't bother again and TOUGH... 'coz I have lots of material which would have helped you in your project!

4) And finally, to ANYONE over the years to whom I inadvertently failed to reply,  SINCERE APOLOGIES and please send me a knuckle rapping PM!

Ach Eddy we know your an old grump!

Be that as it may I agree with you.  In fact I'd go further , bad manners are on the increase both on line and in U.K.society in general.  Like you Eddy I'm a dinosaur  and remember the common curtesies of the past.

Thanks John!  It's a good job we live a fair distance from each other, imagine what it would be like if two old grumps got together! :-)

Well at least it's not just me - It seems like most people agree that good manners are a thing of the past :-(
