Hi from Oz!
We have ordered our GRP hull of the Waverley from David Metcalfe, and
eagerly await its arrival. Can anyone recommend a good book that is
still available that gives good illustrations and detail about her?
It seems as if everything at Amazon is either out of print or else
months away. We have probably downloaded everything relevent about
her on the net. Also we are researching steam plant - the ideal is
steam at the moment, though if we have no alternative she will be
battery powered. All we can find on-line and in OZ is the Cheshire
steam plant - are there any alternatives?
Cheers
Wilf and Caroline

What state are you in? If it is Victoria you could try Models 4 You in Nunawading or
Niddrie Model Supplies in the great Western Suburbs of Melbourne, if you are in
N.S.W. try R2 Model Marine. These 3 shops stock a variety of steam or can get
them.

Just an idea, but have you considered a secondhand steam engine? These
usually go for quite a big discount on new. There is one here
http://www.theengineersemporium.co.uk/catalogue-pages/modboatplant.html#
The price is just Pds95 and you have at least got the basics.
There are other dealers and possibilities if you consider that a way to go.
Happy steaming

Well hi to you two (too) Wilf & Caroline - r2modelmarine info@r2modelmarine Sydney NSW
(listing courtsey of PJ) have steam plants by Cheddar (UK) and Saito (Japan) - however it would not
be sporting to put a Asian engine in a UK paddler - the Saito range available seems 1/10 of Cheddar
but the costs seem similar - I too would love to install a real steam in my PS Decoy but with the exchange
rate to $AUD it will have be a Lotto win to make it happen
What region from of our land of OZ do you reside?
regards Derek (Wollongong NSW)

Hi Derek
Haven't seen the Saito plant - but like you say - the exchange rate
hits hard - it dropped just after we ordered the hull from the UK!
Seems like we just can't win. We're from Adelaide, so our model and
hobby shops don't have much in stock, and its quicker to order from
overseas than from Sydney! We'll try and track down the Graupner
plant - our local shop has a lot of Graupner stuff so we might strike
it lucky.
Cheers

Thanks Peter - I did a goggle search on Graupner > then straight to their site - the problem is (as before),
I cannot scroll down the left hand red column of topic points - I did however find the world Agents listing
So her is one for Wilf & Caroline - the SA Agent is L O'Rielly (Model Flight) - Forrestville SA 5035
phone 0882933674
My wife is a SA born girl so we spend a number of weeks in Adelaide each year - I know the postcode
5035 area well - must be very close to South Road - Edwards Town or Black Forrest (all PC5035) etc
Sorry but don't get your hopes up, the only reference to Graupner @ Model Flight is aeroplane topics -
the same with the NSW agent & the same with two USA Agents & the same with the parent Graupner
German site
So back to you Peter, please come back with the detail of site that you saw re Graupner product steam
gear, or if any other PD from around the world can help please do
regards Derek

Derek,
The site I found the Graupner gear on was the U.S. site for Hobby Lobby at
www.hobby-lobby.com/index3.htm
then go to Drive Units and click on Steam Engine the engine is listed with full
details, my sailing mate, Mike Gill, has one on order and was told it is about
AUS$600 - AUS$620 which makes it competitive, I can just see some of our friends
across in the UK and USA falling off their chairs at these prices, it shows how keen
we must be. The delivery would be about 6-8 weeks as our retailer has to get it from
Germany via Leo Reilly of Modelflight.
Hope this helps.

Along this line...
Has anyone seen or know where to find the saito steam equip? There is web
site which shows them, but nobody seems to know anything about them, or their
availability.
