Steam Engine Plans for 45 ft Steam Pinnacle

hey guys are there any plans for a steam engine I can build at home to power this 45' steam Pinnacle from the HMS Dreadnaught? I thinking doing it in 1/12th scale which would be 45"

I know there are plans in the downloads section but i dont know what one I would need to spin the prop and what boiler I should use. this will be my first steamer so I dunno where to start

I think the MB22 may be suitable, I think the original was driving a similar sized vessel.  Maybe check the thread with Malcolm's boat and double check though as I read this a month or so ago and my memories getting shocking lately - the joy of getting older

I think the standard MB 22 would be a bit small for this model. Mine drives a three foot open launch - the River Queen design by Vic Smeed.
If you look back in the live steam forum to Oct 2014 you will find Steam Up was building an MB 22 but with the stroke increased to 1/2". It seems to drive his 45" launch quite nicely. Why not ask him what he thinks about it?
If you PM me I can email you a set of the drawings with the mods needed to increase the stroke.

The boat looks a beauty and will be a worthy model. I look forward to your progress. I am building a similar sized steam powered boat, 1 metre long (40") and I have just commenced work on the hull. I have already built the boiler and twin cylinder engine over the last two years. If I can help you in any way just ask. I have the plans for the engine and boiler.

yea I am taking it slow I did a lot of drawing so far but now taking a short break or I will start making mistakes going too fast as i am working 3rd shift and 12 hr days so i try to draw when i can. atm I am working on a 1/24th scale Daman Stan Patrol boat lol I know I dont need this many but it looks more scale with 53 bulkheads.

the side steel has the bulkhead posts showing so I figure why not I do scale aircraft with 30 formers or more basically if the full scale had that many I usually try to o that many only cause I am anal about as exact scale as possible. The lofting is done just have to make the pieces for the kit and plans. also need to figure out how to do the bow thrusters

The best idea is to first build your steam plant and then plan your boat size accordingly. In small boats (under 70-80 cm) the steam plant's weight can really be a problem, especially if the boiler is made of copper.

Another thing to consider early on is the maximum diameter of propeller that fits your boat. The propeller size should be matched to the engine capacity. For example, I have often seen model steam engines coupled to propellers which were too small. This wastes a lot of steamfrom the boiler, whose power cant be transferred by the propeller to the water.
