"Steam Motorcycle"
« on: May 10, 2009, 07:07:34 AM »
Hi, I am an engineering student, but new to steam power and for my second year project I am looking into the feasibility of building a "modern" steam powered motorcycle using a gas (hydrogen) boiler. To start with I am concentrating on the power plant, as this will need to be powerful (50 to 100 hp), compact and light weight. My current research draws me towards the use of a three cylinder "unaflow" type engine, but as with all ideals I would like to hear a few opinions from others who know far more than I.

thanks Jeff

Welcome Jeff,

I'm sorry, but we're primarily a website devoted to paddle steamers, both research and building models, so I'm afraid your on the wrong site to get much help with your project. You really need to find a specialist website on high powered steam engines.

Regards
Eddy

Somebody did build one back in the 1920s. It still exists, and works, and is in a museum in Gloucester, UK, I think. Lets just say such machines are not for the faint hearted..........
