These are my homemade drives. 6V motors,stainless steel gears/shafts from two encoders found in trash. They are rather noisy but I think will be allright once in the boat.

Cool Beans!  How did that work out?

Amazing how separate builds can com up with the same idea, even at different scales.  I'm planning a 30 ft dual-sternwheeler.  Plan to use two electric scooter(sit-on type.  Looks like a modernized Vespa) motors, and roto-tiller reduction drives.  From that, I'm going to be driving two Pitman's, through a mechanism I just found, on each wheel, with two wheels at the stern.  She'll be able to turn within her own length, do turns from dockside, etc.
