Hello From Houston, Texas
« on: November 13, 2014, 02:01:34 PM »
Hello,

I'm in Houston, Texas and new to the forum. I am back to the model building hobby after a thirty year hiatus and planning to build an rc riverboat, having seen the Creole Queen kit from Dumas many years ago. What I am leaning towards, is a traditional 1800's riverboat, dual smokestacks, crank-arm driven model. I'm not sure I want to build a hull on my first rc boat (Creole Queen). I want to incorporate a smoke unit, as well as sound.

1) Dumas Creole Queen - I'm not sure about quality, belt-drive or ability to support addl. weight.
2) Saito Delta Queen or Victoria - later period, cost is a consideration.
3) St. Louis Belle (Plans and fiberglass hull from Myhobbystore UK) - I like this, but will require more work.
4) Robert E. Lee (Plans and fiberglass hull from Steinhagen-modelltechnik Germany) - I like this, but will require more work.
5) Engel Chaperon - seems ok, maybe too much plastic? cost is a consideration.

I guess I'm leaning towards the plans/hull option as the best mix of looks/cost. If any of you have built any of these, know of other options, or have feedback, I would appreciate hearing from you.

Looking forward to talking with everyone on the forum.

Thanks!
Greg
