Hello fron Vienna
« on: July 02, 2014, 03:48:06 AM »
As I wrote above, Hello from Vienna.
I would like to introduce myself in the Paddleducks Forum, and may bring you some Information about me first. I`m 57 Yrs old, and former Motorcycle mechanics. Now that i am retired, i`ve got time enough to build some Ship models, but the "newer" Ships are not so much interesting for me. My main Interest are the old Steamers, especially Paddlewheelers are on my "building list". Right now i am planning  a model of the RIGI from Switzerland in 1 : 50 measure. But there are almost no Informations exept of length, width, coluor and the Engine of the Ship, so i will have to reconstruct the complete Ship on Paper first, and then build it up from scratch.
Sorry for my bad english, i try to get better ;D
Greetings
Gerhard
PS.: some Photos of what i have built until now, there are still more, but no good Pictures

Hi Eddy

Thanks for your welcome!
The RIGI is in preparation now, at the time i`m reconstructing the plans, there is nothing to find at the Internet! New thread will be made at    paddler modelling/Construction.

Gerhard

Hi Gerhard

Are you modelling her in the original form as in the first photo here http://www.kingswearcastle.co.uk/Rigipotm.htm or later in her life?

As you say, there is not a lot of material available and what there is may be as doubtful as her present preserved condition with reconstructed original style features on a lengthened and modified hull.  I have been (slowly) trying to draw up the Rigi trying to reconcile the cardboard model kit and the small profile drawing that was produced for the restoration but am having trouble getting the lines smooth enough.  In the end, I may just copy the card kit in styrene sheet and simply increase the draught.

All the best

Brian

Hello Gerhard and welcome. If you look in the card and paper models section of this site you will find a rather nice downloadable card model of the Rigi at approximately 1/75th scale which is very convenient for scaling up to 1/50th scale it is a nice model. I found it first of all on a papermodels site wwwss42.com papermodels. There are a lot of very mice ships in the ships and boats section. Regards, Walter.
Blessed are the "cracked" -for they let in the light for the rest of us.

Hi Brian
Thank you for xour welcome, and the link in your post. I did not know that site, but now it`s saved as favorite. This shows just some good views of the ship i did not have before planning! To your question; YES i will build the RIGI in her originally form, this is so unusual, that I have to. Just the body, wheelhouses, steering stand at the stearn, open visible boiler and engine, that makes the technics "open to be seen"

Hi to Walter also
The card model was original printed in switzerland to help the RIGI "reanimate". Now she is parked in front of the "Verkehrshaus" in Luzern. The printout was the first thing, i saw from the RIGI.

More will come, when my building thread is on the line, there is much more to tell about how I will make it.

Regards
Gerhard
