I have not been around for a while , i know .
I needed some time of due to the fact o lost my mother in Januari.
and some fysical problems like a frozen shoulder
But now i'm back again and found my drive for working on my boat again .
It's a tow boat that also was rented by the royal institution for sea research in Den Helder ( Netherlands )
It was build in 1883 by Leen Smit and son shipswarf for the steam tow service compagny L.Smit & Co.
measurements are : oal 40m width (incl paddleboxes) 7.25m depth ( empty) 2.10m (full loaded with coal ) 2.40m-2.70m brt 272tons
double compound surface condenser paddle engine 4 cylinders driven by 2 kettles with 4 fires each ( two funnels)
paddles diameter 4.80m driven with 36 beats a minute
in 1905 the ship received new kettles that made it possible to go 9 knots
from 1903 until 1911 it was rented out as an exploration vessel for the duration of 70 days a year
in witch time a lab was build upon the deck
many people will say that the lab ruins the beautifull line of the ship
maybe it does , but that lab was just the thing i needed to make it stand out between other boats
what's a little bit different has Always attracted me
in 1926 it was taken out of commision and a year later it was scrapped

I found this beauty on a local secondhand site
it was in a terrible state, dirthy , dusty , colours all wrong , completely empty inside , and lots of mistakes in construction and deck building
from the coolboxes on deck he had made cabins
so first thing i did was take pictures of how it was
second thing i removed all i could remove , cleaned the decks completely
and gave it all a good sanding (surface was kinda rough)
i cleaned the hull and after some primer coats it finaly got some nice layers of the correct colour
and some layers of varnish (xtra hard finish)
after all that i build the decks back up with the correct parts ,and made myself a nice laboratorium
instaled new lights on both of the masts , in the cardcabin (on the bridge) , port starboard also received new lights
and the officer on the bridge got a nice lantern ( he looks happy now )
i made the crew (scale 1/19, tamiya formula 1 personell) with putty (a first time for me )
i tried to make them look like dutch sailors (let me know what you think of them )
they're occupation on deck is mostly taking samples and temperatures of water and marine life
there is still a lot to be done but i have the time
so let's see some pictures of my pride and joy
