I know this is an old thread but the Benton isn't well documented as you've already found.  Here's another that I have in my files.

BTW, if anyone would be interested in the latter Union City Class, aka Pook's Turtles, gunboats I have some excellent CAD files available that eventually are slated for a 1:72 or larger scale laser cut semi kit.

Thanks Hermill, I already had that file in my collection.... Do you have a drawing/photo of the Union City class boats? I don't have CAD software, so a jpeg image would be ideal.

Eddy, I just uploaded the PDF file containing plans, build article & reference photos.  This plan is primarily of the hull, frames but but offers enough detail for anyone to do a proper build.

The CAD files are much more concise consisting of 9 separate files for hull, gun deck & hurricane decks.

That's superb Hermill, and VERY quick!! ;)

That may well become a future project, maybe for the 2013 Paddler Day?

Many thanks
Eddy

WOW!!!

I've now had a chance to look at the plans and photos in a bit more detail. They give everything needed to build a model, so work will start once Paddler Day is over....

Glad to know you liked what you saw.  There were just a few of us on the Yahoo site waiting for all the plans to be completed before the author lost interest & shut it down so I doubt many know they exist.

The City Class is another project that I keep adding to my bucket list for an eventual build.  As mentioned, I already sent the files to a someone who excels in 3D drawings to have a laser kit produced.   I already have a 1:72 Canonicus monitor, USS Manhattan, on the water as well as the hull for CSS Tennessee mostly done.  USS Chickasaw will follow which at that time I'll have all the major ironclads that fought in The Battle of Mobile Bay.

If you haven't already downloaded Steve Lund & Bill Hathaway's Modeling Civil War Ironclad Ships, by all means you'll want it as part of your reference library & then follow with something as exotic as Chocktaw or Osage.
