Moore & Wrght Micrometer Spare Parts
« on: April 27, 2012, 04:32:36 PM »
Given 1" to 2" Moore & Wright 966 micrometer that has spent many years in an old shed.Looked to be in a very sad state, under all the muck and grime found very useable micrometer.Problem the lock ring is missing, can not find replacement.I have a pattern from other micrometers i have, but can not identify thread.Would appreciate any information on thread TPI-form-size.The lock ring is the old type that screws up into the frame.

Hi PD's ....mmmmmmmm Colin... :whistle I am sure the actual threadforms used in micrometer construction are absolutely unique to the components

Don't be surprised if M&W used fine metric thread designations.........just like as used in BA threads which are technically metric

Without being negative.........I wouldn't hold a lot of hope of a spare part being available....& to have one CNC ground these days would be cost prohibitive ....but good luck......Derek  :coffee

hello
without knowing the outside diameter it is hard to say but would guess that it is one of the model engineer threads at 40 teeth per inch hope this helps

I did a quick search and found this place that offers calibration and repairs,
http://www.microprecision.com/instrument/MOORE_&_WRIGHT-966.html
they maybe able to provide parts.

Gerald.
